Hi!, I go by my middle name Larry except when I am dealing with insurance.  I have passed the peer support specialist California exam after the peer support class.  One of the primary things they stress in the class is to impart to your patient to never give up hope by giving your own experience.  I would tell the client that the hospital is not the end of the world.  I was hospitalized 5 times, but recovered to have a successful engineering career.  My first experience was giving up alcohol.  My next recovery was from bipolar diagnosis in 2004.  My psychiatrist was able to get me the correct level of medicine to get me stable since then.  One of the strengths mentally is to maintain a healthy diet which affects you medically.  My wife, a dietician, has helped to keep me on a healthy medical balance.

What can members expect to take away from sessions with you?

I am dedicated to helping you by empowerment and mutual respect. I believe in viewing my members with empathy, compassion and without criticism.  I have experienced divorce as well as a successful relationship.  Every aspect of my experiences is an open book which I will gladly share with the member.  I feel that recovery is always possible with the help that can be reached through enlightenment from therapists, counselors, and peer supporters.  I am dedicated to doing my part.  I want to understand what you are going through so I can relate it to my own experience.

Explain to members what areas you feel are your biggest strengths?

As a peer support, I can leave with my clients is to never give up hope.  My greatest strengths are perseverance and persistence as well as being a good listener.
