Hi! I’m Jamie Henkin and I’m a Certified Peer Support Specialist with Skyler Health. Depression and anxiety have been my constant companion since I was young. It intensified in my 30’s and the last 25 years have been quite a roller coaster. I didn’t have healthy coping skills let alone even know what they were, so I turned to alcohol, pills, and marijuana to numb the pain. I’ve survived rock bottom, suicidal ideation, and suicide attempts. My experience in a 30 day residential treatment center helped turn my life around and taught me the coping skills I needed to thrive. Eventually I’ve learned the only way out is through. You have to be willing to feel your feelings and sit with them. It’s not easy. It’s hard work. And if you’re open and ready to take that next step, it would be my pleasure to work with you on your journey to heal and be whole. Happiness and stability does exist and I’m living proof! I look forward to working with you.
What can members expect to take away from sessions with you?
When we work together you can expect an empathetic ear. Someone who will actively listen to get to know who you are as a person. Understanding you and your needs helps me to better assist you with your challenges. Whether you want to set goals, need mentorship or an accountability partner, or just need to vent, that’s just some of what you can expect in our sessions. Through my journey, I hope to inspire you and show you that healing is possible and real.
Explain to members what areas you feel are your biggest strengths?
One of my greatest strengths is the lived experience I bring to peer support. Having lived through my own struggles with depression and anxiety, I can genuinely empathize with those who are going through similar challenges. This first hand understanding allows me to offer a sense of connection and validation that members may not find elsewhere. My desire to give back and be of contribution to others is very strong. I have always believed in the importance of supporting others, especially those who are struggling with mental health challenges. With empathy and compassion, I will listen to understand.
